Superintendent of Schools


2012-2014       West Platte School District         Weston, Missouri

 

Implemented a number of new instructional programs in the elementary school, including: K-6 Spanish, K-6 Computers, K-2 Stanford 10 Achievement Testing, RTI, DRA, Buckle Down, Test Ready, Study Island, and a comprehensive revision to the elementary literacy program.


Implemented a number of new instructional programs in the high school, including:  Advanced Business Education, Agriculture Education, Advanced Foreign Language, Advanced Placement and Dual Credit      courses, Online Course Offerings, Job Shadowing, Chamber Jays, Credit Flex Program, and Embedded Vocational Offerings.


Completed a comprehensive overhaul of District instructional technology, including: switches, wireless, server upgrades, storage, off-site backup, file sharing, teacher tablets, teacher desktops, Smart Boards, projectors, new computer labs, fiber, v-lan, Windows 8 platform, Microsoft Office, mobile printing solution, Adobe Suite, Google Aps for Education, Word Press, Moodle, My Big Campus, Edmoto, Canvas, and more.

 

Implemented 1:1 student devices in grades PreK-12 and a two-year comprehensive embedded technology professional development program for 100% of elementary teachers and 60% of high school teachers.


Created from scratch a new district website: www.wpsd.net.


Implemented a new Performance Based Teacher Evaluation System.


Re-branded the West Platte School District and created comprehensive marketing materials, including: new logos, mission, values, theme (See Yourself Here), look book, post cards, gift/promotional materials.


Created new district communication flow, including: communication plan, print newsletter, electronic newsletter, get connected brochure, Facebook page, Twitter account, rapid notification system, You Tube account, Google Plus account, newspaper article series, press release procedure, media procedure, RSS feeds.


Increased unrestricted reserves by 25% ($5 million) in two years.

 

Eliminated debt service levy via prepayment of debt.  Approved lowest total tax levy in 2012 and 2013 in over two decades.


Developed a facility master plan to guide continuous improvement, growth, and management of facilities. Completed a $300,000 construction project and several smaller projects.  Planned $12 Million in new construction via the new facility master plan.


Worked collaboratively and productively with four new to the District administrators and 30 new to the District teachers.


Implemented data teams and the use of Acuity testing to guide instructional improvement.


Implemented a Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and Building/Departmental Improvement Plans.


Implemented a Curriculum Director position and guided in the creation of a comprehensive written curriculum for the District via Build Your Own Curriculum software.


Utilized reserve funds to transform all Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade classrooms from traditional to SMART multimedia classrooms in first three months in the district. (55 Classrooms)


Implemented new Student Success Program –similar to Career Ladder – to enhance services provided to students while increasing teacher compensation. ($4,500 annual compensation per certified staff member) Program included summer professional development institute.


Increased teacher and support staff compensation each year as superintendent. Re-established salary schedules for all employees.


Amended ASBR from previous three years to correct mistakes and to meet requirements of the annual audit.


Created and implemented a school and community wide Character Education program via the CharacterPlus model.


Conducted a district-wide safety, security, and hazard mitigation audit from which three plans were created: Facility Risk Assessment Plan, All Hazards Mitigation Plan, and Continuity of Business Plan.

 

2009 – 2012    Sherwood School District        Creighton, Missouri

 

Increased unrestricted reserves by 30% 2010-2011.


Refunded a 2005 series bond at a savings of over $375,000 to the district taxpayers.


Developed a facility master plan to guide continuous improvement, growth, and management of facilities in preparation for a 2013 No Tax Levy Increase Bond Issue.


Worked collaboratively and productively with three first-time Board Members 2010-2011.


Perpetuated a data driven and goal-oriented approach to continuous improvement for all aspects of the educational program via strategic planning.


Implemented of an Instructional Coach for Elementary Reading and Communication Arts.


Maintained high standards of educational excellence while facilitating a culture of continuous growth based on a high level of motivation and high expectations.


Designed and implemented a comprehensive Performance Based Teacher Evaluation program for all district certified staff.


Collaborated with the PDC to bring technology, Jensen Brain-based Learning, and Kagan Cooperative Learning strategies to our team.


Utilized ARRA funds to transform ALL Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade classrooms from traditional to SMART multimedia classrooms in first four months in the district.


Utilized Restricted ARRA funds to supplement salaries and transportation thereby reducing $75,000 of deficit spending for 2009-2010.


Amended ASBR and Classroom Trust Fund deposits in previous years to build reserves in the General Fund.


Utilized ARRA funds to transform ALL remaining classrooms from traditional to multimedia classrooms.


Created and implemented a school and community wide Character Education program via the CharacterPlus model.


Restructured staffing to provide a weekly computer specials class for all elementary students.


Implemented a number of new instructional programs in the elementary including: RTI, DRA, Buckle Down, Test Ready, Study Island, and a comprehensive revision to the elementary literacy program.


Participated in the Rural Education Initiative through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.


Revised and communicated the five-year Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.


Comprehensively revised the maintenance department in regard to assignments, expectations, and responsibilities.


Conducted a district-wide energy and lighting audit and made recommendations for implementation of high efficiency devices and best practices.


Conducted a district-wide safety, security, and hazard mitigation audit from which a Comprehensive School Safety Improvement Plan was developed.


Conducted a cost analysis of school managed verses outsourced transportation and food services departments and made recommendations to the Board.


Prepared and recommended a conservative 2011 budget with a 7% reduction in expenditures as a preliminary step toward the five-year road to recovery in the area of school finance 2010-2011.


Prepared and recommended a conservative 2011 budget with a 7% reduction in expenditures as a secondary step toward the five-year road to recovery in the area of school finance 2011-2012.


Prepared, submitted, and received approval for a $1.08 Million FEMA Storm Shelter Grant.


Prepared, submitted and received $75,000 funding for a DESE Greenhouse Grant.  Greenhouse Completion date Spring 2011.


Prepared, submitted and received a $20,000 private grant to complete a campus treescape master plan.


Completed several small but significant campus projects, including: removal of all exposed asbestos tile, football/track press box, roof/guttering replacement, campus standard for building/outbuilding painting and maintenance, building envelope resealing, film platform in high school gym, flooring project in middle school, baseball press box, treescape master plan, and secure entrances retrofits.

Created and implemented a new school improvement model, Neo-Classic Design, to lead continuous educational improvement.


Maintained high standards of educational excellence while facilitating a culture of continuous growth based on a high level of motivation and high expectations.


Served as instructional leader for Espy Elementary: a Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) top ten school for academic achievement, one of 15 Missouri Gold Star Schools for 2009, and one of seven schools endorsed by Missouri for the 2009 National NCLB Blue Ribbon Schools Award.


Served as Co-coordinator of a successful $11.4 million School Bond Issue campaign (2007) and a successful $18.5 million School Bond Issue campaign (2009).


Facilitated Title IV funds for all district schools. Coordinated substance abuse counseling services for all district schools.  Coordinated the title IV budgeting and purchasing for all district schools.


Secured funding and personally installed multimedia classrooms throughout Espy Elementary.


Facilitated the first-year implementation of the Missouri Professional Learning Communities model which migrated to Neo-Classic School Improvement model.


Consulted with architects and provided continuous input and direction during the construction of the new Espy Library Media Center and new High Point Elementary School.


Comprehensively revised the schedule of classes to allow common prep time and common collaboration time each day for all grade level and specialty area teachers.


Personally provided research-based professional development in the following areas: Crystal Reports training and data analysis, development of SMART (strategic, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-bound) goals for student achievement, higher order questioning, Gardner’s multiple intelligences, Jensen brain-based learning strategies, Response to Interventions, and a number of other achievement based teaching/learning strategies.


Developed a twelve-week theme-based, pre-MAP plan of action to focus efforts in the weeks leading into the MAP exam – the plan included weekly brain-based strategies, MAP vocabulary words of the week, and weekly test tips for students, all centered around an annual pop-culture theme.


Developed and implemented the “Perfect Pass” program for attendance to provide intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for students – Espy Elementary attendance increased each year and also led the Nixa district for five straight years as a result of these programs.


Completed human resources training through Ventures for Excellence – a comprehensive program for the selection and management of prospective employees.


Worked diligently to secure outside funding for additional technology – quadrupled the number of SMART Boards in Espy classrooms from five to twenty in three years via building level/community funding partnerships and grants.


Began the technological migration from existing methods to Power School and School Fusion software programs.


Developed a “green” plan of action for sustainability for the building, campus, and outdoor classroom areas.


Mentored eight aspiring principals and over two-dozen new teachers.


2003-2004       Chadwick School District         Chadwick, Missouri

                               PreK-12 Principal


Successfully task-analyzed, implemented, and led an action plan to prepare, organize, and present the on-site review for the Third Cycle Missouri School Improvement Program. 2002 APR = 41 2003 APR = 84.


Implemented various physical changes to meet MSIP requirements including:  all-inclusive revamping of the special services department – health services (facility, records, and documentation) – student services and counseling (facility, records, and documentation) – teacher work room (facility and professional references) – principal’s office (facility, records, and documentation).


Comprehensively revised the schedule of classes (to meet faculty / budget cuts) and merged the Jr. High and Sr. High teachers and students into one seven period block of classes.  Requested and

compiled course syllabi for all courses offered in the curriculum.


Created or updated various district documents including: PBTE evaluation forms, Core Data, Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, Program Evaluation Plan, Job Description Handbook, Assessment Plan, Career Ladder Plan, Teacher Handbook, Student Handbook, Library / Media Center Handbook, Health and Student Services Plan, Migrant Education Plan, Curriculum Development Plan, Crisis Management Plan, Safety Policies and Procedures, Four Year Plans, and Student Records.


Established, communicated, and facilitated increased expectations for student behavior and consequences.


Personally provided research-based professional development in the following areas: Clear Access training and data analysis, individual student and group analysis of standardized test data (MAP / Stanford 9), teacher motivation, student motivation, higher order questioning, multiple intelligences / learning styles, other various educational information and practices.


Critiqued the existing Library / Media Center and created an action plan for improving the program, which included: a new faculty, new personnel, a new computer lab (grant funded), revision of the curriculum, revision of the LMC handbook, policies and procedures revisions, addition to the media and literature collection, revision to the Accelerated Reading program and procedures.


Maintained educational focus among teachers and students, and sustained an environment that was highly conducive to learning despite five major construction projects within and directly adjacent to the school.


Diligently worked to improve the physical environment as well as the motivational and emotional culture of the Chadwick educational program.


Mentored ten new employees within the district, six of whom were first year teachers.


Served as President of the Mark Twain Conference Principals’ Association.
